The Power of Music

Have you ever thought about how influential music can be on your life?  When I am sad I listen to sad music because sad music helps me cry and just get all the frustration out. When I work out I listen to up beat, fast tempo music that inspires me.  Certain songs make me think of certain events in my life or certain people.  When I hear the song "On Eagles Wings" I think of my Papa Lon and his funeral. Every time I hear that song I cry and I know that my mother does too.  When I hear "Eye of the Tiger" I think about my 4 a.m. morning swim practices in high school. Every morning on my drive to school to go work out in the early morning hours I would listen to that song and try to get pumped up for my workout.

Music has become such an important part of people's lives.  Today ipods are everywhere and people take music everywhere they go.   I have friends who play this game where the only way they will talk to each other is by quoting music.  I am amazed but yet, they get through entire conversations by doing this!  People express their feelings through songs, after 9-11 there was a slew of patriotic songs coming out from all kinds of artists.  These people knew no other way to express themselves but to sing and write songs that other people could relate to.  I don't know why I mention this only that, lately I have been finding myself listening to one distinct song.  "Let Go" by Frou Frou has suddenly become the only song I want to listen to anymore.  For some reason the song seems to calm me. I like the message. At least I like the message I get from the song.

"Just let go, jump in, and well what are you waiting for?  Its alright cause there's beauty in the breakdown..." I think that’s my favorite line from this song.  To me this song says, just let all your fears, all your worries go jump into the abyss and let go of everything because in doing so you resolve what you need and that resolution is beautiful.  The end of the road is when you have resolved what you needed to.  Some resolutions mean the end of something forever but you must keep in mind that every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end. That too is from a song but I cannot remember what song.  Music makes me relax when I am stressed out and happy when I am sad.  Music is such an important part of people's lives and I just wanted to share my thoughts about the power of music.
