INTASC 6
The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and
media communication techniques to foster active inquiry,
collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.

*Reflective Statement*
To me this standard means that teachers should be very good at
communicating in many different ways. By being capable of
communicating in different ways the teacher can help students
understand and in turn express themselves in different forms.
This is a very important skill for teachers to master because
communcation is a valuable part of today's society. Students must
learn to communciate effectively in order to succeed in life.
*Revised Reflective Statement - Fall
2008*
There are many different forms of
communication, verbal, non-verbal, and even media forms of
communication. In order to foster active inquiry, student
collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom teachers
must have a comprehensive knowledge of effective forms of
communication. This means that teachers have knowledge of
different forms of fostering behaviors in the classroom. Every
student learns differently and in order to effectively communicate
teachers must understand the different forms of communication and how
they can and will effect a students learning. From a cross look,
small smile, questioning tilt of the head, or nod of approval effect
non-verbal communication can speak volumes to students. Teachers
must know and understand how their non-verbal cues such as body
langauge can effect students, even if they don't mean for it to.
*My Personal Experience*
In my drama class my teacher used to have us play a game similar to
charades. In this game students interacted with each other in
every way but verbally and the other students in the class would have
to guess as to what the students were acting out. This game
helped students learn how to express themselves in ways other then
verbal.
