Sociology
INTASC 1
*Artifact*
This artifact is actually a paper I wrote as a make up for a quiz
for my Sociology 241 class with Professor Hennessee in the Fall of
2007. This paper exmplifies the information that I have learned
in Sociology classes. In this paper I answer questions about
Merton's theory as well as differential association theories. My
answers show the knowledge that I have attained in my sociology classes
and my growth of knowledge in this area. This paper is associated with
Standard #8 of the Indiana Professional Standards Board Teachers of
Social Studies Content Standards. This paper shows my knowledge
and understanding of how roles, status, and social class describe the
interactions and connections between individuals, groups and
institutions in society. This paper also shows my understanding
of how individuals, groups, and institutions develop and change over
time, thus furthering both continuity and change.

This artifact is an assignment that I completed for Sociology 228:
Global Sociology that I was in with Dr. DeOllos in the summer of
2008. This assignment, labeled the third world country assignment
includes part A and part B. Part A is approximately 8 pages of
information compiled from the United States CIA website about a Third
World Country. The information included in these 8 pages of
compiled information includes, but is not limited to, information about
the land use, natural resources, terrain, climate, population, age
structure, birth rate, death rate, sex ratio, ethnic groups, an
overview of the economy, poverty information, as well as many other
important aspects of the country of Botswana. Part B is a two
page paper discussing Botswana and the problems facing the third
world country including debt problems. I believe that this
artifact clearly demonstrates my knowledge of content in this
area. In this assignment I clearly discuss globalization, demand
and supply, issues of dependence upon rich and more developed
countries, debt and poverty in third world countries. I make
clear connections and inferences on globalization and the effects it
has on societies.

This artifact is a homework assignment that I completed for Sociology
260: Society of the Individual with Professor Kapinus in the spring of
2008. This assignment is over different identities such as
situated identity, personal identity, three factors that increase the
likelihood of developing a particalr persons identity and how social
class can and has personally effected my life and my identity.
This assignment is a good example of the knowledge I have gained in the
area of sociology throughout my various sociology classes. This
assignment clearly demonstrates my knowledge of complex sociological
terms and my ability to not only define these terms but also to
distinguish the differences in theories and their practical
applications. This assignment also demonstrates my ability to
relate my own life and sitauations to sociology as a content area and
how sociology can and does impact everyday life.

This artifact is a journal assignment that I completed for Sociology
427: Sociology of Religion with Professor Kraus in the fall of
2008. This assignment is a discussion of the readings assigned
throughout the semester. The assignment is a reflection on the
readings from various chapters from Religion in Society: A
Sociology of Religion (8th Edition) by Ronald L. Johnstone and When
Religion Becomes Evil by Charles Kimball. This assignment
demonstrates my ability to read, understand, and synthesis complex
information on a sociological level. I clearly demonstrate my
knowledge of content area and ability to create connections between two
different reading from similar content areas because of my
understanding of my content area. This assignment discusses
simliarities in content between the Johnstone and Kimball chapters as
well as differences and my opinions on the assertions Kimball makes in
his book When Religion Becomes Evil.
